What to Take on a Camping Holiday

If you are thinking of heading off on a camping holiday this year then you need to make sure you are well prepared.  There are many places all over the UK where you can camp such as in dedicated camp sites or even in holiday parks where they offer a camping facility.  However, how enjoyable your camping experience is will all depend on how well prepared you are and whether or not you have everything that you need.  And what you take with you will be determined by the type of camping you will be doing and where you will be doing it.

Minimalist Campers

If you can do without a lot of luxury and comfort, then you would be considered a minimalist camper and probably wouldn’t require a lot of items with you.  You will probably be at home camping in the wilderness and will have no problem adapting to your surroundings.  Provided you have food with you and the ability to light a fire, you should be fine wherever you are.  You would probably be fine sleeping out under the stars and won’t even require a tent.

Gear Orientated Campers

If you like the idea of camping but still want to be comfortable, then you will want to take quite a lot with you.  You are probably the type of person who would like to camp in holiday parks because you will have a lot of facilities at your disposal but you will also have the whole camping experience.  If this sounds like you then making your camp a home away from home will require a little more preparation.  For example, you are going to need to take things like mini camping stoves, tables, camping chairs, cots and much more.  You will want to have a big enough tent so that everyone has somewhere to sleep and you will want to ensure that you have plenty of food with you.  You may even want to take a portable barbeque with you.

If you are not staying in a holiday park and need to build a fire then a small axe might be something to take with you so that you can chop some wood.  Make sure you have a lighter or some matches and preferably some fire lighters as these can ensure that lighting the fire is easier.  If you want some great camping gear then visiting a camping store is a good idea.  You may come across a number of items that would make your camping trip much easier despite the fact that you never even thought of these items before.

Hunter Fleece Socks are One Way to be Nice to Your Feet

They say that you don't realize how important some things are until you lose them. This is certainly true when it comes to the various parts of the human body. For instance, how often do we really think about the importance of our feet? We usually don't give them any thought at all until one of is injured, or we experience some other functional problem that makes them uncomfortable. When such a situation occurs we suddenly realize how important the feet are.

I'm sure that at some point in our lives we have all stubbed a toe so severely that we tore the skin and drew blood. The injury to the toe was enough to cause us moderate pain for a least a couple of days. In turn, the pain through off our normal gait, so that after three or four days, the legs and hips began hurt. After that, the back got into the act because the posture was so poor. All of that because of the stubbed toe.

Interestingly, the military knows the importance of healthy and comfortable feet. That's why they invest so much effort in producing the finest boots and socks possible for all ground-based troops. In fact, any military man will tell you that the boots are one of the most important pieces of equipment a soldier is issued with. They are designed to keep the feet comfortable, warm, and dry. The Army knows the man with healthy and comfortable seat is a better fighting machine.

You and I can do some little things of our own to be nice to our feet, including choosing quality shoes and socks. As winter approaches, now is a good time to think about rubber boots and socks. Hunter fleece socks as an example, along with Hunter rubber boots, are two products that can help keep our feet comfortable and dry. Regardless of the temperature or the snow and ice, rubber boots and fleece socks are an excellent idea. And just like the soldier, if our feet are comfortable and healthy we will be more productive ourselves.

During the summertime, we're not likely to be wearing Hunter fleece socks or boots, but the choice of footwear is still just as important. A rubber-soled sandal or trainer provides adequate protection as well as comfort. Sandals make an excellent choice because they protect the feet from the surfaces we walk on while still exposing them to the sunlight and fresh air. I know for me personally, my feet love sandals during the summer.

So let's take care of our feet. The nicer we are to them, the nicer they'll be to us.

Skiing on Mont Blanc - A Natural High

Mont Blanc (French), also known as Monte Blanco (Italian), meaning ‘White Mountain’, is the third most visited natural wonder on the world. It is home to some of the most spectacular winter scenery in the world. It is also home of one of the most popular winter festivals: The Winter Sessions.

The Winter Sessions was established in 2004 and is a combination of freestyle ski and snowboard competitions mixed with amazing, heart pumping concerts, night club gigs and 3000 capacity concerts. This awesome event takes place in April and the next event is scheduled for 22 – 24 April 2011.

Getting there is a priority for any snow sport enthusiast and checking one of the best Nixon watches you have owned, you will see that time for preparations for this event is quickly running out.

The preparations are extensive. Just like any other trip that you plan on taking, there are a number of arrangements that have to be made. The first is: Who’s going to take care of the dog/cat? In winter this is especially a good question as animals are particularly vulnerable. Along with that: Who’s going to look after the house? Another pertinent question, as holiday season is burglar season. Once again you check your favourite of all your Nixon watches to determine whether the house-sitter is late.

Once the domestic arrangements are taken care of, you can look at arranging your trip to Mont Blanc. Travelling from the UK you don’t need a visa, as it falls within the European Union. How to get there is a completely different story. Will it be by bus, plane or train? You check your Nixon watch and decide that the scenery can wait for another day. You’ll take the plane and get all the scenery you want from Mont Blanc itself.

The next arrangement is to pack your ski’s or snowboard because there will be plenty of opportunity to show off your skill and adventurous spirit. Be prepared for thrilling downhill races, death defying stunts and many more breathtaking activities. Pack in your skiing clothes and don’t forget to pack enough warm clothes for when you’re standing around in the snow as a spectator, watching other snow enthusiasts to show off their talents.

Pack in your party clothes because there will also be non-stop entertainment, music, concerts and, of course, dancing. The entertainment continues into the night with boutique club gigs and live concerts.

When all is said and done, you will consult your Nixon and the time will have arrived for you to catch the taxi to the airport. Get ready for the Mont Blanc high!

Discovering Historical Cyprus

Cyprus is an ancient country, settled since prehistoric times, and with a long and stormy history. Almost every civilisation in the Mediterranean has had an influence on the island and left its lasting mark. No holiday to Cyprus, therefore, would be complete without paying tribute to some of its historical sites and soaking up some ancient culture. And there can be no better way to do this than in the comfort of your own transport, through car hire in Cyprus. Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean, so a car is really a necessity if you want to see as much of it as possible.

Starting with the national capital, Nicosia (local name: Lefkosia, meaning white city), you can trace the old Venetian walls and visit the various ethnological and Byzantine museums, including the Ledra Museum and Observatory. You should certainly visit the restored eighteenth century House of Hadigeorgakis Kornesios (or the House of the Dragonman) which now houses a museum.

Drive west from Nicosia and within the hour you will reach the spectacular Troodos Mountain range dotted with Byzantine monasteries and churches and little old mountain villages. In the summer, the pine-scented woodland offers a welcome respite from the heat, while in winter it offers various winter sports and skiing. You really must take in the Neolithic settlement of Choirokoitia, one of the earliest human settlements on the entire island, before heading south to Limassol to take in Ancient Curium and Kolossi Castle, dating from the second century and the thirteenth century respectively.

The village of Episkopi, close by, houses a museum and this incredible archaeological site is one of the major tourist attractions of Cyprus. You can then follow the coastal road to beautiful Paphos to visit the tombs of the kings which are carved from solid rock, and see the lovely Roman mosaics in the ruins of the Roman houses near Paphos harbour.

Another short drive of about 40 kilometres will take you to the Akamas Penisula and the baths of Aphrodite, the irresistible goddess of love, beauty and sexuality, where according to mythology, she used to bathe before Zeus had her married off to place her out of the reach of love-sick admirers.

You can spend as little or as long as you like visiting the wonders of Cyprus if you have the freedom of car hire. Cyprus is rich in ancient history and legend and has far more for you to discover than this short guide can possibly offer.
